AUDITION INFORMATION:
This version of Scapin is an adaptation of Les Fourberies de Scapin, by Moliere, who in turn took the character archetypes from the commedia dell’arte tradition of theatre from Italy. It is a delightful farce of love, revenge, betrayal, and friendship.
The story centers around Scapin and his friend/accomplice Sylvestre, as they play tricks on their masters, all in the name of helping the master’s sons find happiness with the women they chose, rather than the ones their fathers have chosen for them. Along the way are mishaps, mistaken identities, long-lost relations, and a delightful chase scene.
This production will be very movement based. Accordingly, everyone will be auditioning twice: Once with a scene and once for movement. MAKE SURE YOU SIGN UP FOR BOTH OF THESE!
There will also be a special audition slot for the part of George. George’s part is unique in that he provides all the music for the show (on piano).
Audition days are as follows:
Monday 3/5: Scene Auditions
Tuesday 3/6: Movement Auditions
Wednesday 3/7: Movement Callbacks/George Auditions
Thursday 3/8: Scene Callbacks
Friday 3/9: Cast List Posted
Scene Auditions (Monday, 3.30-6.00)
Scripts available in Room 108. Choose one scene to audition with and familiarize yourself with it. Sign up for a time slot. If you choose a scene that has another character in it, please select another actor to audition with.
Movement Auditions (Tuesday, 3.45-6.00):
You must be present the whole time. We will be doing some movement work as a whole group, then splitting into smaller groups. This is also the day to show off any special skills you have (dance, tumbling, scooter tricks, circus skills, etc.)
Movement Callbacks (Wednesday, 3.45-6.00):
You must be present the whole time. We will be seeing how you move with others and with music. We will be going through the chase scene and assigning parts to people, briefly rehearsing, and then presenting with various Georges providing piano.
George Auditions (Wednesday, 3.45-6.00):
You must be present the whole time. George will be playing the piano during movement callbacks. Please prepare a piece that wouldn’t sound out of place playing behind a silent movie (in the vein of “The Entertainer”).
Scene Callbacks (Thursday, 3.45-6.00):
Be prepared to stay for the whole time slot, as we will be doing multiple readings and seeing how people read together. You may be dismissed early.
