5/1 Notes & 8th Grade Preview

Please also review your notes from yesterday, as we did not go over Act I today!

SCAPIN – KNEEPADS.

End of run:

Arg – “as if on cue” NOT “as if almost on cue”

Octave – “then…. Welcome, eh” there’s a tiny pause there after the then where you’re acclimatizing to the new situation. And then you adjust and you’re fine again.

Syl – keep checking in with Scapin so you know how the accident happened.

Nerine – look concerned when Scapin is carried on “injured”. You liiiiike him.

Geronte – Don’t say anything prior to “well, aren’t you going to die?”

Nerine – say “okay” to Scapin, not Geronte

Chase scene (run 2)

Scapin – more blatently push grandma in Geronte – be directly SL of her, not upstage. So we read it as you pushing her

Scapin – when you are “flirting” with Arg, lean waaaay further out the window and flirt longer

Mob – still too spread out the 2nd cross

Syl – dropping your hat worked great as a way to delay you and keep you onstage longer for the mob/rake thing (it happened last run)

Syl – react when you see Geronte coming for the bag.

Nerine/Scapin – strip more onstage – vest off, suspenders down, tie off.

Lea/Zerb – one handed stage kiss looks much better, thank you!

Lea/Zerb – dance together more during final dance. Leander, look at Zerb the whole time. Like, you can’t take your eyes off of her. She too pretty. You love her too much to look away.

Act II:

Zerb – No smiling during mess-up dance! Great exit timing

Butt Boogie is now part of fight call – we gotta work on dropping Ginger – if we don’t “drop” her, she has no reason to “lose her balance”

Hyacinth – Let’s keep it to two false names – the 2nd one being Zoe.

ZERBY – SWING YO HIPS AND SASSY HAIR FLIP. Otherwise Hyacinth is doing a thing and you are just standing there!

Scap – yo hitstick should be siiiilent when you are Scapin. So you CANNOT swing it up behind your back to hold it as Scapin.

Scap – Can you yell more in pain? It sounds like fake pain, and you gotta convince Geronte that it is real pain.

Ger/Scap – right before Scap says “you and your bag, thenior” – Geronte should start trying to scotch offstage in the bag.

Scap/Syl – Scap – good letting Syl know what he should be looking for, and Syl – good waiting to say it until Scap gesture explains.

Leander – that was a beautiful cover of what happens when your sax breaks. Perfect.

Nerine – A little less scary. Scold him, but prettily.

Scapin – Wig pins?

Syl – Be behind Arg/Nerine so you aren’t blocking Zerb’s entrance

Lea – Can you be watching the people say the familial relationships like you’re watching a tennis match and getting more and more confused until you break in with “hang on, I’m a bit confused”

Lovers – No whispering when Scap is being carried on. You can gasp lightly when he’s first brought on, otherwise silence

Leander – love this hidden smile/laugh when Scap is talking about beating up your dad. It’s beautiful.

Nerine – you can clear your throat at Hya and signal her to be less PDA  when the “si si si” convo is happening.

All – Cheer more when Ger forgives Scap when you think he’s dying! He recovered miraculously! It’s amazing!

Wolf – can you fall off the wall the other way? Like, feet to stairs, head toward offstage?

Sophie – yo grandma pockets be hanging out.

Arg – Slower. Much slower. Take so much more time here.

Scap – Hang out the window and flirt with him loooonger.

Mob scene – 2nd cross too spread out.

Syl – Have a big moment onstage where you see Sophie/bag and gesture at it like “IT’S SCAPIN!!” Before you run to her.

Sophie – you are really getting the hang of slugging in the bag!! AWESOME

Hyacinth – do not kick Argante! Octave is nudging him to wake him, not to kick him!

All – let’s come onstage in pairs instead of all at once to give Scap time to change.

Lea – eyes on Zerby for the whoooole final dance.
