Final Dress Notes

GINGER – BALLET TIGHTS!!

Wolf – No Morph suit – the no hands thing is freaky. Black shirt underneath to hide the riding up of the porter jacket instead.

Sophie – Black socks, plz.

Porters – look like you’re having more fun in the opening number – only the gendarmes should be serious in this one.

Octave – be pacing away from Syl until “oh, preach preach preach” and turn back to him suddenly on that line.

Oct/Syl/Scapin – loving the timing on the interrupts here.

Syl – can you do the nodding off thing during Oct’s story more exaggerated? Still wake up on “no, scapin, I mean it this time”

Scap/Syl/Oct – Scap and Syl should be more in line with Oct during charades, because we’re losing all the reactions on Ainsley’s face because she is turned upstage.

Syl – don’t forget to react FAST if Octave turns around. Like red light, green light.

Syl – previous “marriage”

Scap – still losing “I would have used it against him” – needs to be enunciated more/louder

Maddie – this was actually the first time I’ve really seen you have fun with this dance. If messing up makes you laugh, I’d rather have you messing up and having fun than doing it perfect and having a gendarmes face. I mean, obv I’d prefer you looking like you’re having fun and doing it right, but if I had to choose one…

Hya – YES!! DO THAT ON THE PIANO EVERY NIGHT!

Scap/Syl – I’m loving that you get more exaggerated in your imitation behind Oct/Hya every night.

Scapin – Deadpan face for “my trousers fit”. Go ahead and make awkward eye contact with an audience member for that one.

Arg – the make-up has transformed you, and your physicality is the best it’s ever been. Keep it up!

Porters – do not kick smol wall. It is noisy when you kick smol wall.

All – I’m hearing voices from backstage. None o that.

Arg – “then I’d make HER my heir-ess”. Emphasis in “her”

Syl – great big dumb guy stance!

Syl – lunge toward audience is really improving!!

Scapin – “you could work at…. Southwest Stageworks”. Pause and then really enunciate.

Nerine – Volume = better. Can you do slightly bigger jumps?

Scapin – great delivery on “she’s got a nice trunk”

George – yup, can’t forget to go into gendarmes theme. 

Marina, you can approach George and clear your throat to prompt him if he really forgets.

Arg – You’re still reading as nervous on “that’s very true about apples”. Chipper. Be chipper.

Arg – thank you for remembering to not hit yo cane on ground when you exit.

Leander – lovely fencing stance.

Scapin – once again, phrasing makes it sound like you came home covered in blood and bandits.

Leander – volume.

Scap/Selina – let’s practice a bit with that cloak Velcro before tomorrow.

Lea/Scap – this fight scene is looking so kickass that I can’t even.

Syl – And they’re taking your Zamboni – let’s add a microscopic pause for Lea to say the “Zerbinette” afterwards. Because you yelling the sentence “and they’re taking your zamboni” is just… hilarious.

George/movement – can someone from movement raise George’s hand first before heading into the audience?

Zoe – you need a fake moustache as Syl’s stunt double. Yup.

Scapin – Maybe slap the moustache back on Syl gentler so he can “shave” it easier?

Syl – On “the cold never bothered me anyway”, we need a silly wooshy snow noise on the spin afterwards.

Argante/Scapin – This is at least the third time I have put this note in here. After Syl leaves, when Scapin goes to get him back, Argante has to chase him across the stage. You like… half did it tonight. Scapin, get at least as far as the hedge before he stops you.

Ger – can your reaction be more alarmed at each new thing Scap says in that sentence? “5 hundred crowns” *shock* “life of slavery” *more shock!* “two hours” *ALL THE SHOCK*. And then your line is reacting to the first thing and it is funny because we expect you to react to one of the other things.

Scap – excellent escalation of how fed up you are with heading about that boat.

Ger – You can’t tantrum with the hand holding the money… its jingling makes it too hard to hear your line!

Scap – “I cannot allow you to applaud that man.” If applause.

Scap – yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas foreign menace angle line.

Nerine – Cues!

George – take a touch longer after Scapin exits for you to exit. Maybe give some nice big old sigh or something.

Act II:

Oooooh.. Argante… Cues….. Be there for top o Act II, lad

Movement – Scapin still needs to be there longer to catch Nerine. Like, Zoe should pull him away right as Nerine starts to fall. Maybe Zoe should pull /scapin onto Argante’s stairs instead of across the stage?

That sun. Is so funny. I’m dying.

Zeeeeeeeeerby – hips hips hips hips hair flip. Do it MORE.

Zerb – excellent laugh. So good. So over the top. Yes.

Scapin – good shushing.

Scapy – sword be shhhhhhhh until you are a French intellectual. Play with sword during fight call to remind yourself of this.

Sophie – I can HEAR you make gun noises with that pool noodle back stage.

Scapin – be disappointed that he says hit the sack, and then gesture to hit you instead, so he knows to give you the shmakenze. Schmankenzie? Whatev.

Ger – Maybe instead of the hedge, kick the bag off stage right? It’ll be easier to retrieve without the audience noticing.

Ger – I love that your timing is hitting so that you’re almost stepping off the stage and then stop for “so easy to make money”

Zerb – yes. Good. Elongate the hell out of that why.

Syl – can’t project happy face again until “didn’t mention you”

Syl – can you do nervous face instead of shock face on hearing Arg’s theme?

Nerine – “you changed your name… again?”

Argante – yes. Turtle.

Scap – yo PTA mom outfit has a dreadful necklace. Let’s make sure it ends up with the costume and on you tomorrow.

Nerine – Lines lines lines

Hya – if Nerine drops that line, ad lib something, like you did last night.

Oct – good on “welcome, eh”

Lea – run in holding bracelet prop already in your hand

Syl – No, no you cannot crab walk offstage. It does not actually help you leave without us noticing.

Scap – keep miming the story whether or not Syl looks back.

Scap – Wail a bit more before clearly asking if you are center in a normal voice. Then resume whining when picked up again.

Nerine – maybe don’t go so far as to bap them. Just try to stop them from where you are prettily posing.

Nerine – louder on “okay”

Oct/Zerb – better on the slap. I think we have to go with Zoe actually going to slap Ainsley and stopping right as you start to touch her and then Ainsley turning her head sharply…. It’s still too obviously fake.

Scap – be behind (SL) of gma Sophie as you push her so we clearly see you pushing her.

Wolf/Arg – Good stalling tactic with the booze!

Scapin – still need to flirt longer! Shimmy at him or something.

Syl – YES!! YES YES YES GREAT TELLING US THE BAG IS SCAP!!

Wolf – go ahead and spit-take when Sophie is revealed from bag.

Wolf – and then you question the booze. It is a time-honored comic bit. That we are honoring. With our time.

Maddie – YES! Actually, ripping the curtains down works so much better. And then you can turn to Geronte and be all “oh sh-“ Do that from now on. That’s your blocking now.

ETHAN. MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH YOUR FIANCEE!! Because when she is all cuddly on you and you are watching what else happens on stage, it reads as you not caring about her.

All – we need to take a weeeee bit more time before Scap’s entrance.

Porters – hold still during the wedding – you are drawing ALL the focus right now, and should be drawing NONE of it.

Gendarmes – yes. Good dancing during final dance. Very funny when Maddie tries to get Marina to and it doesn’t work.

Lea/Zerb – dance closer together with more eye contact during final dance, because you look a bit like awkward middle schoolers right now. Like awkward middle schoolers when your friends want you to hook up so you are dancing to humor them but you don’t actually like each other.

Zerb – during George appreciation, you can start laughing as soon as Hya kisses him and Oct gets all indignant. Like, that’s what you find funny.
